Emilio Marquez (Bishop)

Emilio Zurbano Marquez (born May 28, 1941 in Lopez , Quezon , Philippines ) is a Filipino clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Lucena .

Life

Emilio Marquez received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Lucena on June 6, 1964 .

On December 15, 1984, Pope John Paul II appointed him first bishop of the Gumaca diocese, which was established in the same year . The Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines, Archbishop Bruno Torpigliani , donated him episcopal ordination on January 29, 1985 ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Cebu , Ricardo J. Vidal , and the Bishop of Lucena, Ruben Profugo . On May 4, 2002, John Paul II appointed him coadjutor bishop of Lucena. Emilio Marquez became Bishop of Lucena on September 13, 2003, succeeding Ruben Profugo, who resigned due to illness.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on July 29, 2017.
