The roadway of the Melbbrücke in Bonn

The Melbbrücke is a three-arched stone bridge from the 19th century in the Bonn district of Ippendorf , which spans the Engelsbach in the Melbe Valley on the border with the Venusberg district . It stands as a monument under monument protection .

Construction and data

The Melbbrücke is completely made of field fire bricks - only the foundation bases are made of rubble stones - and has three circular segment arcs of roughly the same size, each with a span of 6.15 m. It is 41.20 m long and 5.00 m wide.

history

The bridge was built around 1845, probably in connection with the neighboring Melb estate . In 1852 Wilhelm Schirmer painted the Melbe valley with the bridge. In 1902 the structure was repaired. In 1971/72 the bridge was extensively renovated and, among other things, the end walls and parapets that were no longer stable were dismantled and a reinforced concrete structure was built to absorb the traffic loads .
