Melchior Fritsch
Melchior Fritsch (born January 2, 1826 in Vienna ; † May 5, 1889 ibid) was an Austrian landscape painter , draftsman and lithographer .
Fritsch began his painting apprenticeship as a private student of Joseph Höger and continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Joseph Mössmer and Franz Steinfeld .
In 1845 he received a gold medal for a landscape painting.
Fritsch went on study trips through the Alps, to Italy , South Tyrol , the Middle East ( Constantinople , Smyrna ), to Paris and in 1886 to Berlin .
He was a member of the Viennese artists' association "Eintracht", since 1859 of the Patriotic Union of Viennese Artists, co-founder of the Wiener Künstlerhaus .
Some of his landscape paintings were acquired by the imperial art collections from 1876 to 1884.
In addition to the landscape paintings, he painted portraits of famous Austrian actors ( Johann Nestroy as Willibald , lithograph 1847, Vienna Museum on Karlsplatz ).
Works by Melchior Fritsch can be found in the collections of the Upper Austria State Museum in Linz , Seitenstetten Abbey and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna .
