from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Melchior Rabensteiner zu Döhlau († before 1534 ) was an advisor to Grand Master Albrecht von Brandenburg and later held offices in Brandenburg-Kulmbach , a. a. he was briefly bailiff from Epprechtstein .

Melchior Rabensteiner zu Döhlau came from the Franconian noble family of the Rabensteiner zu Döhlau . He was the son of Konrad Rabensteiner and Magdalena, née von Bibra . There are known three brothers and one sister. Like him, his brothers Balthasar, Asmus and, in some literature, also Alexander are briefly listed as subsequent bailiffs of their father at Epprechtstein Castle with the town of Kirchenlamitz . They belonged to the Konradsreuth line of the family, half of which remained represented with the upper castle in the village of Döhlau . Melchior died relatively early and had no male offspring.

Melchior was selected for a career in statesmanship: he appears as a councilor to Grand Master Albrecht in 1517 and in 1518 on a diplomatic mission to Grand Duke Vasily III. in Moscow and in the same year traveled to the regent and bishop of Pomesania Job von Dorbenck in Riesenburg .

Possibly the death of his father in 1521 was the reason to return home. In the literature he is listed in 1524 as bailiff from the Epprechtstein. In 1528 he signed an invitation to the Knights' Day in Kulmbach as Marschalk and Knight Council of the Gebirg area . One learns of his death indirectly from the fact that his brothers were enfeoffed with his property as early as 1534.
