Melchior Siegel is mentioned in the forest and wood regulations of Elector August von Sachsen from September 8, 1560

Melchior Siegel the Elder (* shortly before Shrovetide 1515 ; † May 21, 1588 in Eibenstock ) was an Electoral Saxon tithe and tin smelter and co-owner of a hammer mill.

Life

Siegel came from a dynasty of Hammerherrn from the Saxon Ore Mountains , who also invested in the Kingdom of Bohemia . Lorenz Siegel († 1527) is his father, who first worked as an experienced miner in Sankt Joachimsthal , but then settled in Eibenstock when he was tenth. He and his brother Caspar Siegel were called bread men because they made sure that bread was brought from Joachimsthal to Eibenstock, as there was no grinding mill there.

Melchior Siegel can be traced back to 1546 as a house owner in the Bohemian mountain town of Platten . He was also temporarily a co-owner of the dump hammer .

In 1557 he settled in Eibenstock, where he lived for over 30 years until his death. Upon request, on October 2, 1564, he and his brother Johann (Hans) Siegel were awarded a family coat of arms by the Emperor Maximilian.

On March 12, 1568 he and Jacob Kleinhempel (see below) received permission to build a blast furnace.

He bought the Vorwerk located in Schönheiderhammer from Heinrich Uttmann on April 4th July. / April 14, 1584 greg. . Just one year later, he also acquired the hammer mill, thus establishing the era of ownership of this hammer mill by the Siegel family that lasted until the beginning of the 18th century.

family

Melchior Siegel's daughter Margaretha married the hammer gentleman Jacob Kleinhempel vom Muldenhammer on September 17, 1564 in Eibenstock. His sons Christoph and Melchior Siegel, like their father, became tithes from Electoral Saxony. Wolfgang Siegel is his grandson. His son Gabriel Siegel became the hammer mill owner in Breitenbach in 1599.
