The Melda is a river in France that runs in the Aube department in the Grand Est region . It has its origin in the north-eastern part of the greater Troyes area , where for centuries the course of the water has been changed for various reasons by human intervention. Today the Melda in the municipality of Lavau is branched off from the Vieille Seine , the original bed of the Seine . It generally drains in a north-westerly direction, temporarily divides into two river arms ( Grand Melda and Petit Melda ) and after 24 kilometers flows into the Seine as a right tributary in the municipality of Savières .

Upper course of the river

The disappeared upper course of the river seems to be hiding under the Melda river of the same name, which sandre runs as a separate watercourse under the GKZ F0854000. It rises in the municipality of Laubressel , reaches the greater Troyes area via the Canal d'Argentolle and there flows into the Vieille Seine . Presumably it has lost the connection to its original lower course through river regulation measures.
