Russula subsect. Melliolentinae is a subsection of the genus Russula , which is within the Polychroma section. The subsection was originally defined by Singer, but Romagnesi also uses this taxon, but with him it has the rank of a section.
features
The representatives of the subsection are more or less robust pigeons with a mild or only slightly pungent taste. The brim of the hat is usually blunt. The meat is white, but tends to yellow or brown with age and also turns yellow or brown when cut. With iron sulfate, it turns pink and never greenish. The smell is often a bit honey-like or poppy-like when it goes away. The spore powder is off-white.
The spores themselves are usually very fine-black and ornamented more or less in a reticulate manner. The dermatocystids are not encrusted and not acid-proof. Usually the Pileocystiden are multiple septates.
- The type species is Russula melliolens , the honey deaf .
