The Mendick Hill is a hill in the Pentland Hills . The 451 m high elevation lies on the eastern flank of the approximately 25 km long range of hills in the Scottish Council Area Scottish Borders . It is one of the southernmost hills of the Pentlands.

The nearest towns are West Linton and the hamlet of Dolphinton , each three kilometers away in the northeast and southwest. The surrounding hills include Catstone Hill in the northwest and King Seat in the north.

Surroundings

Several streams rise on the flanks of the Mendick Hills. The brooks rising on the north and east flanks flow into the West Water, the outflow of the West Water Reservoir . The reservoir itself lies at the foot of the northwest slopes of the Mendick Hills. It was built in 1969 to supply regional water. Streams flowing down from the south flank flow into the South Medwin , which eventually drains into the Clyde .

Various flint artifacts were found on the northeast slopes of the Mendick Hills , which are now in museum collections and testify to an early settlement of the hills.

A collection of up to 100 cairns can be found in front of the west flank of the hill  . Due to their historical importance, three individual Cairns as well as an elongated field on the neighboring hill are classified as Scheduled Monuments .

During the Roman occupation of Britain , a Roman road ran along the eastern flank of the Pentland Hills . Its fortification dam can still be seen in parts. A section at the foot of the Mendick Hills is protected as a ground monument.
