King Seat

The King Seat is a hill in the Pentland Hills . The 463 m high elevation is on the eastern flank of the southern part of the approximately 25 km long range of hills in the Scottish Council Area Scottish Borders .

The closest localities are West Linton and the hamlet of Carlops three kilometers southeast and five kilometers northeast, respectively. The surrounding hills include Craigengar and Byrehope Mounts in the northwest, Faw Mount in the northeast and Catstone Hill in the southwest.

Surroundings

Several streams arise on the flanks of the King Seat. Three creeks flowing down from the north and east flanks flow south of the Baddinsgill Reservoir into the flowing Lyne Water . Another stream, which rises on the western flank, flows into the main tributary of the West Water Reservoir . This reservoir, which was set up in 1969, nestles against the southern slopes of the King Seat and serves as the regional water supply.

When the tide is low, various islands form in the West Water Reservoir. As a result of erosion, a Bronze Age cemetery was uncovered on one of the islands , which has been comprehensively archaeologically recorded and documents the early use of the hill.
