Run

The river has its source at around 380 m above sea level near the Cauldstane Slap pass on the southern slope of East Cairn Hill in the Pentland Hills . Although it rises just a few meters from the West Lothian and Midlothian borders , Lyne Water runs exclusively in the Scottish Borders. After a short run, the Lyne Water is dammed between Byrehope Mount and Mount Maw to the Baddinsgill Reservoir . Flowing off its south bank, Lyne Water Faw Mount leaves the Pentland Hills at West Linton .

The A702 crosses Lyne Water in West Linton . Running further south-east, the A701 is crossed at Romannobridge . Beyond the village, the Lyne Waters turns south along the western flank of the Cloich Hills . At Drochil Castle , the river meets Broughton Heights and turns again to the southeast. At this point, the Tarth Water, the most important tributary, flows into the Lyne Water. At Lyne Station , around 3.5 kilometers west of Peebles , the Lyne Water finally flows into the Tweed , which ultimately drains into the North Sea.

On its 30.5 kilometer run, Lyne Water overcomes a difference in altitude of around 150 meters.
