The Mensinger Gorge is a rugged and consistently wooded valley cut in the Wiehen Mountains in the area of the city of Lübbecke in the Minden-Lübbecke district . It is around 800 meters long, begins on the eastern slope of the Wurzelbrink and from there goes north in an arc to the federal highway 239 . The bottom of the valley is around 210 m above sea level in the upper part . NN and falls to the end of the valley, where the source of the Ronceva is located, at 150 m above sea level. NN from.
In the gorge itself, although it was created by eroding influences, there is no permanent stream - there is only a water flow here when it rains heavily. The bottom of the valley itself is sometimes impassable, but a forest path runs immediately to the east, so that the gorge can be hiked through in around 15 minutes. The Mensinger Schlucht is a typical example of a Siepe , i.e. a narrow, damp, canyon-like, low mountain range Kerbtal with a source stream.
