The M 275 is a gasoline engine with twelve cylinders in a V configuration and twin-turbo charging from the Mercedes-Benz brand . It was first introduced in 2002 in the S-Class of the 220 series and gradually replaced the predecessor M 137 in most models . Production ended at the end of 2013, and the M 275 was replaced by the M 279 . The engine was used in the S-Class , the SL and the CL-Coupe .

technology

Like its predecessor, the M 275 has a camshaft per cylinder bank and an exhaust valve and two intake valves per cylinder, which are operated by aluminum roller cam followers, and two spark plugs which are triggered with a delay. The biggest difference to the predecessor, in addition to the slightly reduced displacement, is the twin-turbo charging system installed in the twelve-cylinder engine for the first time at Mercedes-Benz .

Performance values

The series version of the M 275 has an output of 5.5 liters between 367 kW (500 hp) and 380 kW (517 hp). The maximum torque available is between 800 and 830 Nm. Due to this high torque, the engine is coupled to a five-speed converter transmission designed for higher input torques and was not offered with the 7G-Tronic transmission.

M 275

AMG offered the engine as a six-liter version with 450 kW (612 hp). The torque is electronically limited to 1000 Nm in order to avoid gear damage. According to Mercedes-Benz, more than 1100 Nm would be possible. This engine is also used in the Maybach 57 S and 62 S, but a more powerful version with 470 kW (640 hp) was presented in the Maybach Zeppelin at the end of 2009. The same performance level will be used in the facelifted CL towards the end of 2010. The maximum torque there is still 1000 Nm.

M 158

AMG is producing a version of the M 275 with six liters displacement specifically for the Pagani Huayra under the designation M 158 . The engine in this version has an output of 537 kW (730 hp) and a maximum torque of 1000 Nm.

Brabus

The tuner Brabus uses the M 275 as the basis for its engine in the E V12 and Brabus Rocket . Here, after an increase in displacement to 6.3 liters, it delivers 537 kW (730 hp) and reaches a maximum torque of 1320 Nm, which, however, is also limited to 1100 Nm with regard to the transmission.
