The Brabus GmbH is a company in Bottrop , mainly in the field of vehicle tuning especially for Mercedes-Benz has been working models. In addition, Brabus is a registered vehicle manufacturer.
history
Brabus was founded in 1977 at the beginning of the height of the tuning industry in the 1970s and 1980s by the automobile dealer Bodo Buschmann in Bottrop together with his fellow student Klaus Brackmann. The name BRABUS is the combination of BRAckmann and BUSchmann. The original purpose of the company was to outsource marginal activities from the Mercedes agency of Bodo Buschmann's father. Buschmann expanded the original activities to include tuning. Brackmann later left the company and has since worked as a lawyer in Oberhausen. Brabus was best known for the conversion of the Mercedes-Benz W 126 .
1984 they built a Mercedes 190 E a a five-liter V8 engine with 290 hp, 1,985, optimized by Brabus managed E-class a Cd world record of 0.26. Later on, Brabus repeatedly attracted attention with exclusive vehicles. With the Brabus E V12 model based on the Mercedes-Benz W 210 , Brabus presented the fastest production sedan in the world (330 km / h) at the time. The E V12 based on the Mercedes-Benz W 211 continues this world record with 350.2 km / h. A 6.3-liter V12 bi- turbo with 471 kW (640 hp) and 1024 Nm torque was installed in this variant . The 2005 evolution stage of the V12 biturbo engine (SV 12 S) has 537 kW (730 PS) and a torque of 1320 Nm, which is electronically limited to 1100 Nm in order not to overload the tires and transmission. This engine is used in the Brabus Rocket (based on CLS) and recently also in the current C-Class. There it is called Brabus Bullit. According to the manufacturer, its top speed is over 360 km / h. The 2009 evolutionary stage with the even more powerful V12 biturbo engine with 552 kW (750 PS) is installed in the current SL and GLK class as well as in the Maybach 57S and 62S.
In mid-2014 the version of the biturbo engine had 625 kW (850 PS) and a torque limited to 1150 Nm. Originally (on the test bench, regardless of the transmission), this engine version can develop a torque of 1450 Nm on a speed plateau of 2500 to 4500 rpm. It is offered in the current C, CLS, E, S and G classes.
Brabus is also known for the so-called “Mastik leather” equipment, which can reach the price of a mid-range car .
Brabus was considered AMG 's greatest competitor until AMG was bought by DaimlerChrysler . In 1994, Brabus became a factory tuner for Bugatti. At the end of the 1990s, the company premises were significantly enlarged. With 350 employees, Brabus is the largest independent vehicle tuner in the world in 2007. The Brabus- Allee in Bottrop , where the company is based, was named after him.
With the takeover of Micro Compact Car smart GmbH (renamed smart GmbH in 2002) by Daimler-Benz AG, Brabus and smart GmbH founded the joint venture smart-Brabus GmbH based in Bottrop in 2002. In 2004, Brabus Service GmbH was founded.
About 30% of sales in 2008 came from the German market.
In autumn 2012 it became known that Brabus is building a third part of the factory at its headquarters in Bottrop-Eigen, which will primarily serve to expand capacity.
On April 26, 2018, the founder and CEO Prof. hc Bodo Buschmann died after a short serious illness, his son Constantin Buschmann took over the position.
Field of activity
Brabus is now officially a vehicle manufacturer . The range includes all models from smart , Mercedes-Benz and Maybach . Brabus vehicles are distinguished from their counterparts by the fact that they are usually more powerful. The interior fittings are also generally refined and technically upgraded with regard to the materials used. Changed chassis, wheel / tire combinations and modified body parts complete the range.
Brabus also offers individual components. These include B. modified engine control units with chip tuning and rims from our own development.
Startech, on the other hand, is a division of CRD (Car Research and Development), which in turn is a subsidiary of Brabus. The Startech tunes vehicles of American origin of the former DaimlerChrysler - Group as Chrysler , Dodge and Jeep .
CRD is busy converting some Kia models, also in the Brabus look.
