The Sonnjoch group is one of the smaller mountain groups in the Karwendel . The mountain ridge extends over a length of seven kilometers. The group is named after the highest and dominant mountain range of the Sonnjoch ( 2457  m above sea level ). It lies east of the Gamsjoch group and extends from the western Lamsenjoch ( 1940  m above sea level ), which connects the Hinterautal-Vomper chain with the Sonnjoch group, in a north-easterly direction to the Feilkopf west of Pertisau . The group is bordered by the Enger Tal with the Großer Ahornboden in the west, the Gerntal in the northeast and the Falzthurntal in the south and southeast. The steep and narrow incision of the Bärenlahner Sattel ( 1994  m above sea level ) between Sonnjoch and Schaufelspitze is characteristic.

The Eng , the Lamsenjochhütte , the Gramaialm ( 1263  m above sea level ) in the Falzthurntal and the Plumsjochhütte are ideal bases for tours in the Sonnjoch group .
