Mercedes Chilla

Mercedes Chilla ( Mercedes Chilla López ; born January 19, 1980 in Jerez de la Frontera ) is a Spanish javelin thrower .

She won silver at the U23 European Championships in Amsterdam in 2001 and bronze at the 2003 Universiade in Daegu.

In 2004 she was eliminated from qualification at the Olympic Games in Athens . The following year she won bronze at the Mediterranean Games in Almería in 2005 , but failed in the preliminary round of the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki . In 2006 she won bronze at the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg . An out of qualification at the 2007 World Cup in Osaka was followed by a ninth place at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

While she did not get past the first round at the 2009 World Cup in Berlin and the 2011 World Cup , she was Ibero-American champion and sixth at the European Championship in Barcelona in 2010 .

She was Spanish champion nine times in a row (2003-2011). She set a national record three times (62.32 m on July 24, 2004, Castellón ; 63.20 m, August 20, 2006, Monaco ; 64.07 m, June 12, 2010, Valencia ).

Mercedes Chilla is 1.70 m tall, weighs 60 kg and is trained by José María Vega.
