Merieme Chadid
Merieme Chadid ( Arabic مريم شديد, DMG Maryam Šadīd ; * October 11, 1969 in Casablanca ) is a Moroccan - French astronomer and researcher .
education
Merieme Chadid completed a physics degree at the Hassan II University in Casablanca as an MA and then obtained a Ph.D. in 1996. at the Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse with a paper that described and explained hypersonic waves in pulsars . In 2002 she became a member of the National Council of Astronomers . She obtained the highest academic degree in France, habilitation à diriger des recherches, at the Université Nice-Sophia-Antipolis in Nice . At Harvard Kennedy School, she passed several leadership qualifications.
Career
After completing her training, Merieme Chadid worked at the French research institution Center national de la recherche scientifique . In 2005 she carried out her first expedition to Antarctica with the task of installing the Dome Charlie astronomical observatory in the heart of Antarctica.
On behalf of the European Southern Observatory in Chile , she played a decisive role in the installation of the Very Large Telescope at the Paranal Observatory in the Chilean Atacama Desert .
Chadid is currently doing research for the Université Nice-Sophia-Antipolis.
Chadid is a member of the Academy for the Global Teacher Prize and a member of the jury for this award.

- 2013 Appointment as an officer of the Ouissam Alaouite order by the Moroccan King Mohammed VI.

Private
Merieme Chadid is married to the astrophysicist Jean Vernin and has two children.
