Merkatz (sometimes also Meerkatz ) is the name of a German noble family .

history

The first representative of this generation, which was on September 28, 1737 Colonel of artillery Johann Friedrich von Merkatz (1698-1763) for his services by King Friedrich Wilhelm I to the Order of De la Générosité excellent and at the same time in the personal nobility raised . The Federal Minister a. D. Hans-Joachim von Merkatz ( DP / CDU ) is his great-grandson.
