Karl Pfendner from Merkatz

Karl Wilhelm Rudolf Pfendner von Merkatz (born January 16, 1759 in Breslau , † July 10, 1823 in Cosel ) was a Prussian major general . On December 25, 1797 he subsequently received his nobility diploma as "Pfendner von Merkatz"; his descendants are listed as "Merkatz of the Pfendner tribe".

Life

His parents were the businessman Pfendner from Breslau and his wife Susanne Katharine, née Finger. His mother married the artillery general Johann Friedrich von Merkatz after his father's death .

Military career

Pfendner joined the Artillery Corps of the Prussian Army on August 5, 1773 . In 1776 he became a fireworker and took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On January 31, 1779 he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and in 1790 he joined the Corps in Prussia. In 1793 he was one of the blockade troops outside Danzig . On August 10, 1795 Pfendner rose to prime lieutenant , before he was transferred to the artillery general inspection on September 29, 1795 as inspection adjutant. On October 14, 1797 he came to the IX as a staff captain . Battalion. On August 21, 1802 he was sent to Dresden for the Saxon Army Review . On April 7, 1804 Pfendner became captain and company commander of the riding artillery . During the Fourth Coalition War he was wounded seven times in the Battle of Auerstedt , but he fought again in the defense of Danzig.

After the war, Pfendner was appointed major in the Silesian Artillery Brigade on February 21, 1809 . In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation on March 10, 1813, he was transferred to the mobile artillery in Silesia under Major Braun. During the war he fought in the battles near Großgörschen and Bautzen . He was wounded near Großgörschen, received the Order of St. Anna II. Class and on May 19, 1813 the Iron Cross II. Class. On July 29, 1813, he was given responsibility for artillery affairs in Berlin. On December 18, 1813, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on May 27, 1814, he was entrusted with the management of the business as an artillery officer from the Kolberg Fortress . He stayed there until April 27, 1815, when he was commanding the artillery of VI. Army Corps and promoted to colonel on October 3, 1815 with a patent dated October 15, 1815 . On March 16, 1816 he became the commander of the Silesian Artillery Brigade . On January 31, 1820, Pfendner received his departure as major general with a salary of 800 thalers. He died on July 10, 1823 in Cosel and was buried there on July 13, 1823.

Pfendner married Charlotte Luise Wilhelmine von Bardeleben (* August 9, 1779, † January 19, 1801), a daughter of Major General von Bardeleben, in Berlin on May 26, 1789 . The couple had several children:
