The Messeler Falltorhaus is a building in Messel and part of the small group of buildings, Forsthaus Messel .

History and description

The Messeler Falltorhaus was first mentioned in 1630. The Messel fall gate houses were built in the Hege , that is, on the edge of the forest in the course of the Darmstadt Landwehr .

At that time the building had the function of a customs house for the road toll, which was raised by the Darmstadt Landgraves for traffic with the County of Hanau . A "trap door servant" who lived in the house was responsible for ensuring that the "Messeler Schlag " trap gate was closed or opened at the appropriate time.

After 1710 the building was converted into a district forest ranger .

Today's forester 's house from 1890, on the foundation walls of the previous building, is a shingled single-storey building. There is also a barn with an integrated horse, chicken and pig sty, as well as an older baking and washing house.

Monument protection

For architectural and city history reasons, the building is a cultural monument .
