VE AHB Metallurgiehandel GmbH was a so-called plan foreign trade company (AHB) of the GDR and as such was subordinate to the Ministry of Foreign Trade . Contacts abroad or at trade fairs were not made by the manufacturing companies, but by the foreign trade companies. Since 1983, VE AHB Metallurgiehandel has received state requirements from the Commercial Coordination (KoKo) department to generate unplanned currency income from the non-socialist economic area (NSW). The turnover was up to 32 billion East Marks . At times over 500 million currency values ​​were generated per year.

The IHZ was the seat of the AHB Metallurgiehandel.

Company details

It was founded on January 1, 1969. The company was based in the International Trade Center on Friedrichstrasse . Another head office was in Brunnenstrasse 188–190. The company was registered in the commercial register AG Berlin-Charlottenburg under HRB 35204.

An exact allocation of the VE AHB Metallurgiehandel to the KoKo area is not possible according to the current file situation. However, the coordination trade department of VE AHB Metallurgiehandel was subordinate to the KoKo division (companies department) and worked largely independently.

The last general director was Peter Welzel, who had led the company since 1984 and before that was deputy general director. Before that, Georg Süptitz headed it. Günther Severin was general director from 1970 to 1972 .

purpose

In the GDR, the company played the important role of buying raw materials, especially for steel production, and marketing the products of the heavy machinery industry. Despite the scarcity of raw materials, there were numerous combines that had a high demand for ores and steel. The company supplied u. a. EKO Stahl , Sket , Kombinat Schiffbau , but also the Palace of the Republic .
