Métamorphoses is the 13th studio album by the French musician Jean Michel Jarre . Contrary to Jarre's previous mostly instrumental albums, it is the first release using lyrical texts.

Specialty

Jarre dispensed with lyrical texts in his earlier publications. Language was already part of music, e.g. B. as incomprehensible onomatopoeia and samples of alienated word fragments on the album Zoolook , or as a short cutscene for transitions in concerts, like the voice of the time on the live album Hong Kong , but never as an essential component in the form of lyrical singing. This changed with Métamorphoses . Jarre collaborated a. a. with Laurie Anderson , Natacha Atlas , Veronique Bossa , Dierdre Dubois , Lisa Jacobs and Ozlem Cetin and also sang himself, alienating his voice with a vocoder . The texts do not achieve too much poetic depth, and not all pieces use long texts - Bells and Rendez-vous à Paris only contain the eponymous name as a text element, but the fact that Jarre got involved in poetry was already a fact for many of his A reason for fans to be skeptical about the album. The musical direction was also much more oriented towards electronic dance music such as dance, techno and breakbeat. As a result, sales fell short of expectations, although critics received the album benevolently.

Even before the album was released, Jarre played many pieces from the album in front of the pyramids of Giza at his mega concert The Twelve Dreams Of The Sun at the turn of the millennium in 1999/2000 .
