Switzerland
The Swiss online weather portal meteocentrale was founded in 2006 by Meteomedia AG and in 2009 reached more than 50 million page views. The portal focuses on severe weather warnings.
Germany
The Severe Weather Center Germany , based in Bochum , with a team of meteorologists, ensures a 24-hour supply of authorities, companies and other interested parties with precise weather warnings. On the website of the Severe Weather Center, information about affected areas and the type and severity of the expected severe weather is available to everyone. A special feature of the Meteomedia severe weather centers is the warning based on a polygon warning principle: In contrast to a rigid warning grid, warning areas can be individually defined and areas (e.g. postcode areas, districts), lines (e.g. railway lines, power lines) defined as required ) or geographic coordinates (e.g. construction sites, industrial plants) are warned individually. The storm center is supported by public insurers and was developed in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Technology (ISST).
