numbering
Line numbers 1 to 6 are reserved for the subway, numbers 7 to 14 denote the local transport lines of the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) and lines 14 to 18 are intended for the monorail lines.
line 1
Line 1 was the first to go into operation. On September 14, 1974 the southern section from Jabaquara to Vila Mariana was opened, followed by the central section to Santana in 1975 . In 1998 the line was extended north to Tucuruví .
Line 2
Line 2 was put into operation in 1991 between the Paraiso and Consolação stations . In 1992 the stations Ana Rosa and Clinicas were added. In 1998 the line was extended to Vila Madalena , followed by a short stretch to Imigrantes in April 2006 . Then it went to Tamanduateí and Vila Prudente . There were plans to continue the line to Penha station in order to create a transfer option to line 3, but this no longer appears in more recent plans. In Vila Prudente the line 15 connects, a monorail .
Line 3
Line 3 was opened in 1979 with a first section between Sé and Brás . Up to the end of 1988 the expansion followed up to the current terminus of Barra Funda and Itaquera-Corinthians . The line is considered completed.
Line 4
Construction of line 4 began at the end of 2004 and the first section was inaugurated on May 25, 2010. At the beginning only the stations Paulista and Faria Lima were finished, and the line was only used Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In 2011, the Butantã , Pinheiros , República and Luz stations were gradually put into operation. The operating times were also gradually extended, and from October the trains ran daily. The remaining five, Higienópolis , Oscar Freire , Fradique Coutinho , Morumbi and Vila Sônia , should be completed by 2012, but this did not happen in time. In 2014 only Fradique Coutinho was opened, and in 2018 Higienópolis , Oscar Freire and Morumbi . At the beginning of 2020, the new end point Vila Sônia is planned to be completed. A continuation to the city of Taboão da Serra has been planned for a long time, but so far without concrete planning.
This line is operated by the private company ViaQuatro, a subsidiary of Companhia de Concessões Rodoviárias .
Line 5
Line 5 went into operation in 2002 and was completed with the opening of the three stations Hospital São Paulo , Santa Cruz and Chácara Klabin on September 28, 2018. It now has a connection to lines 1 ( Santa Cruz ) and 2 ( Chácara Klabin ). The Campo Belo station , which is to provide a connection to the then completed line 17 from the end of 2019, was inaugurated on April 8, 2019 and went into full operation on the 13th.
Line 15
Line 15 is a monorail and has been in operation since August 30, 2014. However, the first section was only 2.6 km long, there were only the two stations Vila Prudente and Oratório . A first extension was put into operation in 2018 with the stations São Lucas , Camilo Haddad , Vila Tolstói and Vila União . In 2019, two further sections were opened, in August to Jardim Planalto . as well as in December via Jardim Planalto , Sapopemba and Fazenda da Juta to São Mateus . Originally, this was supposed to happen in June 2018.
In the final stage - originally planned for 2021 - the line should have a length of 26.6 km and connect Ipiranga with the Hospital Cidade Tiradentes station. However, only the section up to the next station Jardim Colonial is under construction so far , while the construction of the continuation has been suspended for the time being.
The extension of 2.1 km at the other end of the route to the station Ipiranga of the S-Bahn -like line 10 of the CPTM is planned, but so far only in planning. Line 5 is to be continued until there, and the station will be expanded into a large transfer hub.
Connection to the other train and bus network
The underground network is connected in many places with the network of the CPTM , which is operated like an S-Bahn . The EMTU bus network connects to the south . Some of these buses operate as trolleybuses on their own bus routes. Line 9 (Osasco – Grajaú) from CPTM is considered to be a subway line running on the surface.
