Meyer zu Bentrup farm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hof Meyer zu Bentrup is a courtyard with several historic buildings along the Salzufler Straße 145-149 in Brönninghausen , a district of Bielefeld . The farm was first mentioned in 1305.

history

The Meyer zu Bentrup court was first mentioned in a document on March 16, 1305, when Count Otto III. von Ravensberg donated the farm to the Schildesche monastery to make amends .

In 1550 a "Meiger zw Beventorf" is mentioned for the first time. The name "Meyer zu Bentrup" is still used as the family name of the farm owner.

Brönninghausen has always belonged to the Protestant parish of Heepen and, apart from a former chapel founded in 1458 on the Meyer zu Bentrup farm, has never had its own church or parish . It is documented that the chapel fell into disrepair in 1698 and was probably destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. The remains of the chapel were removed around 1900. The chapel stood in the 32 oak trees in front of the courtyard, which are now a landmark of the courtyard.

The CDU politician Reinhard Meyer zu Bentrup took over the farm in 1969.

Hofmühle

The reservoir of the watermill.

In 1785, Anton Meyer zu Bentrup built a watermill on the wind drift that flows directly past the farm . Around 1820 the miller began buying grain to sell it on as flour. Around 1850, the surrounding farmers were given the right to stow , so that there were disputes with the millers. From 1897 the Kruse family from Hohenhausen were mill tenants. In 1938 Hermann Meyer zu Bentrup had the mill expanded to its present-day condition, and the water wheel was replaced by a turbine. The lease contract with the mill operators was terminated after three generations of milling tradition in 2005 and the mill operation was discontinued, but the technical equipment was retained for demonstration purposes. The right to stow and eat still exists today.

The water mill is now used for a restaurant and is now home to numerous artists and artisans.

More buildings

The old half-timbered farmhouse fell victim to the flames around 1850. That is why the former granary was converted into a residential building and expanded further in 1903. It is still inhabited by the family today. A new barn was built in 1860 directly on the mill pond, built entirely on stilts. The cowshed building was built in 1902, another barn in 1937.
