The Windwehe , also Fettpottbach in the upper reaches , is a 12.5 kilometer long orographically right tributary of the Lutter (Lutterbach) in the northeast of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia . Large parts of the river and bank area are under nature protection. The coat of arms of the municipality Leopoldshöhe is divided by the depiction of the wind blow.

The wind drift arises as a Fettpottbach directly on the Begatalbahn railway line in Oerlinghausen - Helpup . This is a temporary flowing water that mainly carries surface water. From the confluence of the upper reaches of the Windwehe with the Kampbach in the Leopoldshöher district of Greste , the Windwehe is then exclusively referred to as the Windwehe.

The Greste sewage treatment plant is located at 10.4 km. The Holzkampbach and Eselsbach are recorded beforehand. The Holzkampbach (in the upper reaches of the " Grütebach "), which has its source at the Oerlinghauser Marktplatz and which has already flowed past Gut Niederbarkhausen in Asemissen , has already covered a longer distance (approx. 4.9 km) than Windwehe and Fettpottbach (together 1.8 km ). At km 9.6 it flows under the L751 to the Dahlhauser Mühle. At 7.5 km the Pansbach flows into it, at 6.0 km the Sussieksbach (both from Bechterdissen ). The Mühlenbach near the center of Leopoldshöher and an unnamed stream from Schuckenbaum are added at 4.8 km.

3.2 km upstream of the mouth, the L805 via the wind Alas, here flows from right a nameless creek from Nienhagen added that through the moat and two ponds of good Eckendorf is jammed. Shortly afterwards, at kilometer 2.6, the A2 is led over the wind drift. This is where the Brönninghauser Bach joins. At Hof Meyer zu Bentrup , part of the wind drift is dammed (at km 2.2). At 1.8 km the Eckendorfer Bach flows into it, 800 meters before the mouth of the Oldentruper Bach and 700 meters before the mouth of the Hungerbach. In the vicinity of the waste incineration plant, the wind deflection flows into the Lutter (Lutterbach) .

The wind drift drains part of the northern flank of the Teutoburg Forest and part of the Ravensberg hill country .

environment

Large parts of the river area, the lowlands and the Windwehe forest are designated as a nature reserve. In the area of the municipality of Leopoldshöhe and on the border to Bielefeld, this is about 56.5 hectares and is called "Windwehetal". In the area of the city of Bielefeld in the Brönninghausen district it continues as the NSG "Windweheniederung" with an area of 29.5 hectares.

The wind drift flows into the Lutter (Lutterbach) with a moderate load (quality class II). It has to cope with heavier loads from the tributaries of the Pansbach, Brönninghauser Bach and Oldentruper Bach.

A 100 meter long piped section of the Fettpottbach was renatured in 2009 . By installing a so-called stepping stone, the flowing water was upgraded and now complies with the EU water framework guidelines . The measure was implemented jointly by the municipality of Leopoldshöhe, the "Water in the River" project of the Lippe district , the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Arbeit (AGA) in just three weeks. The largest part (80%) of the costs of around 50,000 euros was borne by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
