Michael and Martin Öttl
Michael and Martin Öttl (* 1969 , 1968 in Landeck (Tyrol) ) are an Austrian guitar duo.
Life
The pair of brothers, who appear as guitar duo, come from a family of musicians. The mother, a native of Scotland, taught English at the grammar school in Landeck and plays the piano. The father, Bruno Öttl, taught at the Pedagogical Academy and led several choirs for years.
Michael Öttl began playing guitar in Landeck at the age of 11, followed by training in Innsbruck and with Professor Ragossnig in Vienna . Martin Öttl started playing the instrument at the age of 16, with his brother Michael as his role model. He studied in Innsbruck , where he graduated with honors.
Artistic creation
Both are prizewinners in Austrian and international competitions for classical guitar and have concert experience as soloists and in an ensemble. In 1998 they took third place at the international duo competition in Bubenreuth , and they also received the Pembaur Foundation award in recognition of their artistic work. In 1995 they produced their first CD. From 1995 onwards she performed at home and abroad, including at the “Klangspuren” festival in Switzerland and at Jeunesse Austria . Another great success came in November 2003. The duo took second place in the international guitar duo competition in Montélimar / France . In November 2003 they played a concert at the ORF Innsbruck with four premieres dedicated to them by G. Schneider, Ch. Dienz, E. Urbanner and M. Buchrainer. The concert was broadcast on Austrian radio. In December 2003 concerts in Japan were given as a duo and with the Japanese singer Yumi Aikawa . In 2004 concerts all over Austria and South Tyrol as well as recordings for the Italian radio ( RAI ) and Japan followed.
