Michael Andrew (born April 18, 1999 in Edina, Minnesota ) is an American swimmer . At the age of 14, he became America's youngest professional swimmer.
Career
Andrew's parents are devout Christians and come from South Africa . Andrew is homeschooled from Liberty University . He is by his father Peter Andre after USRPT method ( English ultra-short race-pace workout training). Michael Andrew swims all four styles and has set 78 age class records (as of July 2015).
At the 2016 World Short Course Championships in Windsor , he won the gold medal in the 100 meter medley. He set a new junior world record in Indianapolis (ArenaProswim) in March 2017 over the 200 m medley in 1: 59.12 minutes. After this event, Andrew ranks second on the all-time best of 17-18 year olds in the United States. At the World Cup meeting in Beijing on November 11, 2017, Andrew set the first "official" junior world record in swimming history in 51.86 s over the 100 m medley.
At the Pan Pacific Championships 2018 he won gold in the 50m freestyle.
In December 2018, the then 19-year-old, together with his compatriot Tom Shields , the Hungarian Katinka Hosszú and the Ukrainian entrepreneur Kostjantyn Hryhoryschyn, filed a lawsuit against the world swimming federation FINA in order to grant FINA's monopoly on hosting international swimming competitions break.
