Michael Antenbrink

Michael Antenbrink (born May 9, 1955 in Koblenz ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and was Mayor of Flörsheim am Main from 2006 to 2018 .

Life

Antenbrink attended the State Görres-Gymnasium in Koblenz, where he graduated from high school in 1975 . After completing his basic military service , he studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Berlin from 1977 . Antenbrink graduated with a degree in engineering. Furthermore, he completed a legal traineeship for the higher technical service at the Hessian road construction administration and the state examination in the field of civil engineering. Antenbrink worked for almost 20 years at the Frankfurt Motorway Office or at its successor, the Office for Roads and Transport (ASV) Frankfurt. He held various positions and was most recently construction director and deputy head of office. In May 2005 he moved to the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Transport and State Development .

On September 3, 2006, Antenbrink, who has been a member of the SPD since November 1972, ran for the office of mayor of Flörsheim am Main and achieved second place with 33.6% of the votes. In the subsequent runoff election on September 17, 2006, he was able to prevail with 56.1% against his opponent from the CDU . His inauguration took place on October 31, 2006. After missing an absolute majority in the mayoral election on June 3, 2012 with 41.7%, he won the runoff election on June 17, 2012 with 61.6% of the vote.

Antenbrink lost the mayoral election on May 27, 2018 against the challenger Bernd Blisch ( CDU ), who was running for an alliance of four from the CDU, Galf , Free Citizens and FDP . Antenbrink received 31.7% and Blisch 61.2% of the vote. The turnout was 49.3% ( preliminary official final result ).

Antenbrink has been married since 1977 and has a son and a daughter.

During Deniz Yücel's imprisonment in Turkey, Antenbrink organized regular vigils for the German-Turkish journalist, who originally came from Flörsheim, and these were echoed in the national media.
