Michael Borg-Laufs (born May 19, 1962 in Essen ) is a German graduate psychologist and psychotherapist . a. in the fields of child and adolescent psychotherapy and psychosocial diagnostics as well as behavior therapy . Editor of one of the first behavior therapy textbooks on child psychotherapy (1999) and author of numerous scientific publications on psychosocial work with children and adolescents. Life

From 1984 to 1989 he studied psychology with a minor in sociology at the Ruhr University in Bochum . Up to a doctorate to the Dr. phil. At the University of Bremen in 1996 he trained as a psychotherapist with a focus on behavioral therapy through the German Society for Behavioral Therapy (DGVT) and the Distance University in Hagen . In parallel to his psychosocial activities (including as head of an educational counseling center in Essen ) and as a lecturer at the University of Wuppertal (1997-2002), Borg-Laufs began his work as a lecturer, supervisor , assessor and examiner in the context of psychotherapeutic training at various institutes throughout Germany . Since 2003 he has held the professorship “Theory and Practice of Psychosocial Work with Children” at the Department of Social Affairs at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences , and since 2013 he has been the dean of the department. Borg-Laufs played a key role in developing the master's degree in “Psychosocial Counseling and Mediation ” there.

In terms of professional policy, he is particularly committed to maintaining a biopsychosocial perspective in psychotherapy and fights to ensure that social work training content is given importance in psychotherapy training. From 2000 to 2010 he was spokesman for the specialist group for child and adolescent psychotherapy of the German Society for Behavioral Therapy (DGVT), as well as founding chairman (2002–2005) of the child and adolescent psychotherapy committee of the NRW Chamber of Psychotherapists and a founding member of the same committee of the Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists . Honors

In 2008, Borg-Laufs received the teaching award from the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences for outstanding teaching achievements. In 2013 he received the book prize from the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences and Commerzbank for his publications on basic psychological needs in children and adolescents.
