Michael Brecht (neurobiologist)

Michael Brecht (* 1967 in Bad Urach ) is a German neurobiologist .

Brecht developed techniques in vivo whole cell and their application, which enable the identification and analysis of nerve cells (neurons) and their activity in free-running animals.

Life

Brecht is a son of the Protestant theologian and church historian Martin Brecht . In 1986 he graduated from the Schillergymnasium in Münster . In 1988, Brecht studied biochemistry and biology in Tübingen . In 1991/92 a study visit to San Diego followed . In 1994 he did a research stay at the Keck Center for Integrative Neuroscience at the University of California, San Francisco , USA. In 1994 he wrote a diploma thesis at the University of Tübingen.

In 1998 he received his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt . In 2004 he completed his habilitation at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg . In 2004 he received a position as “Assistant Professor” in the Neuroscience Department of the Medical Center, Erasmus University Rotterdam , Netherlands. Since 2006 he has been working at the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience in Berlin and as a professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin .
