Michael Clark Hutchison

Michael Clark Hutchison (born February 26, 1914 in Edinburgh , † March 21, 1993 in Pangbourne ) was a British politician.

Life

Hutchison was born in Edinburgh in 1914 as the son of the politician George Aitken Clark Hutchison . His brother is the politician Ian Clark Hutchison . Hutchison studied law and was admitted to Gray's Inn in 1937 . In the same year he was admitted to the bar and married Anne Taylor . The couple fathered two children, a son and a daughter. At the beginning of the Second World War , Hutchison worked for a shipping company in Australia. He went to the military and fought in the Australian units in North Africa and later against Japan. Hutchison left the military with the rank of major and joined the British colonial forces. Here he was deployed in Palestine (1946 to 1948) and the Aden colony (1949 to 1955), among others . In 1955 he retired from the military to pursue his political career.

Political career

For the first time Hutchison appeared in the general election in 1955 to elections at the national level. For the Unionist Party , he ran for the mandate of the constituency of Motherwell . However, Hutchison could not prevail against the Labor candidate George Lawson and missed the entry into the British House of Commons . After the death of his party colleague William Darling in 1957, Hutchison ran for the by-elections in his constituency of Edinburgh South . Despite massive loss of votes, he prevailed against the Labor and Liberal Party candidates and entered the British Parliament for the first time. He held his mandate in the following general election in 1959 , 1964 , 1966 , 1970 and in February and October 1974 . In the 1979 general election , Hutchison did not run and left the House of Commons. Hutchison has served as Parliamentary Private Secretary several times in Parliament .
