from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Günther (* 1967 in Munich ) is a German mathematician and professor at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . Günther deals with the numerical solution of common differential equations , differential algebraic equations and their applications.

Life

Günther studied mathematics with a minor in physics at the Technical University of Munich from 1987 , where in 1992 he received the diploma on the subject of Multirate Rosenbrock-Wanner Process for the Integration of Electrical Circuits . In March 1995 he did his doctorate in computer science at the Technical University of Munich under Peter Rentrop and Christoph Zenger on the topic of charge-oriented Rosenbrock-Wanner methods for numerical simulation of digital circuits .

From 1992 to 1995 he was research assistant at FORTWIHR (Bavarian Research Association for Technical-Scientific High-Performance Computing), from 1995 to 1999 research assistant and scientific assistant at the TH Darmstadt , department of mathematics, in the working group Scientific Computing in Engineering and from 1999 to 2000 scientific assistant Assistant at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) at the Institute for Scientific Computing and Mathematical Modeling (IWRMM)

Günther held a C4 university professorship in the Numerics department as a C3 professorship at the Faculty of Mathematics and Economics at the University of Ulm from 2000 to 2002 and from 2002 to 2003 he represented the chair for Scientific Computing and Mathematical Modeling in Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (TH).

From 2006 to 2009 Günther was the coordinator of the Marie Curie Training Network COMSON " Coupled Multiscale Simulation and Optimization in Nanoelectronics ". From 2008 to 2009 he was President of the ECMI - European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry and is treasurer of the Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM) until 2014 .

Günther has been Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal since 2016.
