Michael Harnest

Michael Harnest (born July 17, 1965 in Munich ; † March 13, 2016 in Abensberg ) was a German archaeologist and draftsman .

Life

Michael Harnest was born in Munich as the son of the draftsman Joseph Harnest and his wife Gisela Harnest (née Nuss).

He graduated from high school in 1984 at the State School Home in Marquartstein . This was followed by studies in Near Eastern archeology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After completing his MA in 1993, he worked in various excavation campaigns on the Sirkeli Höyük near Adana in Turkey in 1994 under the direction of Barthel Hrouda .

Among other things, the excavation in the castle ruins in Kallmünz was carried out under Harnest's direction . His work was characterized by a strong understanding of the European archaeological drawing tradition that had arisen from the Renaissance . He worked on various excavations in Bavaria until his death.
