Michael Henkel (political scientist)

Michael Henkel (* 1967 ) is a German political scientist and former university professor.

Life

Michael Henkel studied political science, sociology , law and philosophy . He received his doctorate in 1997 from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . From 1993 to 2004 he worked as a research assistant at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . This was followed by teaching positions at the University of Leipzig (2004–2005) and at the University of Jena (2004–2008). He then represented the Chair for German Government Systems in European Comparison at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Jena and the Chair for Ethics, Politics and Rhetoric at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Leipzig. Henkel is currently working for the AfD parliamentary group in the Thuringian state parliament . In October 2018 he lectured on a topic with Michael Oakeshott in the Library of Conservatism .

Henkel completed his habilitation in 2009 at the University of Jena with a thesis on the constitutional lawyer Hermann Heller . His main research interests lie in the field of political theory and the history of ideas , with a particular focus on the thinking of Eric Voegelin , Michael Oakeshott and Hermann Heller.
