Michael Hopfes

Michael Hopfes (born February 11, 1976 in Wolfratshausen ) is a former German figure skater .

biography

Michael Hopfes started figure skating at the age of nine. The Geretsrieder launched for the Munich EV, his trainer was Karin Gaiser . In August 1998 he moved to Canada to the Mariposa School of Skating in Barrie, Ontario , where he trained with Douglas Leigh (coach of Takeshi Honda ) and Robert Tebby . Nevertheless, he never made his international breakthrough, mainly due to the competition from Andrejs Vlascenko, who moved to Germany in 1994 . After his amateur career ended in 2000, he worked as a trainer in Ottobrunn, then in Germering , Bad Aibling , Augsburg and at the performance center in Munich. In 2006 Hopfes emigrated to Mexico , where he runs a private ice skating school in Naucalpan . In addition, he works as a technical specialist (judge) at competitions. He was a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr .
