Michael J. Seaton

Michael John Seaton (born January 16, 1923 in Bristol , † May 29, 2007 ) was an English mathematician , physicist and astronomer .

Seaton was Professor of Physics at University College London from 1963 . He was President of the Royal Astronomical Society from 1979 to 1981 and was awarded the gold medal in 1981. He also received the Guthrie Medal and Prize of the Institute of Physics in 1984 and the Hughes Medal of the Royal Society in 1992 . In 1986 he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences .

One of his main areas of work was the quantum defect theory , in particular the consideration of the multi-channel quantum defect theory (MQDT).
