Michael Heinz Kaufmann (* 1964 in Gera ) is a German engineer , university professor and politician of the Alternative for Germany (AfD). He has been Vice President of the Thuringian State Parliament since March 2020

Education and professional activities

Kaufmann attended the 14th Polytechnic High School in Gera from 1970 to 1980 . He then completed vocational training with a high school diploma in Halle (Saale) until 1983 and acquired a skilled worker certificate in the profession of "gas and heating network fitter". Between 1983 and 1985, Kaufmann worked in this profession at VEB Heizkraftwerk Süd in Gera.

From 1985 to 1990 he studied at the Bergakademie Freiberg in Saxony in the mechanical and energy technology section, specializing in energy application. He specialized in industrial energetics / process automation and had a stay abroad at the Polytechnic Institute in Riga ( Soviet Union ). He graduated with a degree in engineering . 1990/1991 he worked as a research assistant at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Process and Energy Technology of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, then until 1996 development engineer at KHD Humboldt Wedag Processautomation GmbH in Cologne, a company of Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG (KHD) . From 1997 to 1999 he was partner and managing director of SiliTec Ingenieurgesellschaft für Silicattechnik mbH in Freiberg.

In 1999/2000, Kaufmann received a DAAD scholarship to study at Purdue University in the US state of Indiana and at the University of California, San Diego . From 2000 to 2010 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Applied Computer Science / Automation Technology (AIA; with Georg Bretthauer ) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). 2002 doctorate in business administration to Dr.-Ing. at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (TH). He wrote a dissertation on the topic: "A new automation technology concept for model-based on-line optimization of glass production". In 2010, he completed his habilitation in the field of automation technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). To this end, he submitted a habilitation thesis on the subject of "A contribution to information processing in mechatronic systems".

Kaufmann has been a professor of measurement, control and regulation technology at the Ernst Abbe University in Jena since 2010 .

politics

In 2013, Kaufmann co-founded the AfD and the Thuringia regional association of the AfD. In 2013 he was the top candidate of the AfD Thuringia for the 2013 federal election . In 2017, the AfD's direct candidate was in constituency 195 for the 2017 federal election , but lost it with 26.5% of the first votes against Albert Weiler (CDU).

On October 27, 2019, Kaufmann succeeded in entering the Thuringian state parliament via the AfD's state list. On March 5, 2020, Kaufmann was elected Vice President of the Thuringian State Parliament.

Private

Kaufmann is Protestant, married, has two children and lives in Jena.
