Michael Kemmer (born April 30, 1957 in Nördlingen ) is a German manager . From 2010 to 2017 he was managing director and board member of the Association of German Banks .

Life

After training as a banker , Michael Kemmer studied economics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After completing his studies, he initially worked at Bayerische Vereinsbank , before taking over the finance division at DG Bank in Frankfurt in 1994 and, two years later, the management of group accounting and controlling at HypoVereinsbank . From 2003 to the end of 2005, he was Chief Risk Officer responsible for keeping risks to the bank to a minimum. After the takeover of HypoVereinsbank by the Italian UniCredit Group in 2005 and a dispute with his new boss, Kemmer left the company.

In 2006 he became CFO of BayernLB . Kemmer took over the chairmanship of the board from Werner Schmidt in early March 2008 . He announced his resignation on February 19, 2008 after the bank hit the headlines due to massive speculation errors.

On December 14, 2009, Kemmer resigned as CEO of BayernLB. He drew the consequences of the nationalization of the BayernLB subsidiary Hypo Group Alpe Adria (HGAA) in Austria and the associated depreciation for BayernLB. His successor was provisionally the previous CFO Stefan Ermisch.

From October 1, 2010 to the end of 2017, Kemmer was the managing director and board member of the Association of German Banks in Berlin.

In May 2011, charges of embezzlement and bribery were brought against Kemmer and seven other former board members of BayernLB in connection with the purchase of Hypo Group Alpe Adria. On August 26, 2014, the court dropped the proceedings against payment of a monetary requirement of 20,000 euros after no evidence of breach of trust or bribery had been provided.

Kemmer is a member of the Board of Directors of Logwin AG , Luxembourg (as of August 2018). In the past he held supervisory board mandates at the following companies: BayernInvest Kapitalbeteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (Munich), cash.life AG (Pullach), Deutsche Kreditbank AG (Berlin). From April 1, 2008 to December 14, 2009, Kemmer was a member of the Board of Directors of DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale . Since the end of 2017 is Kemmer advisory board member of the Fintech -Unternehmen Loanboox that loans to cities and municipalities give (August 2018).
