Michael Kuen (master builder)
Michael Kuen (* around 1610 ; † September 10, 1686 in Bregenz ) was an Austrian architect / builder of the Baroque period and exercised the function of city architect in Bregenz.
family
The four brothers Hans, Jakob, Michael and Kaspar Kuen were all builders in the Hohenegg domain, which at that time belonged to Vorarlberg . At the beginning of the 1630s they moved to Bregenz, where Jakob, together with his brothers Michael and Kaspar, founded the Capuchin monastery (including church) of St. Anthony of Padua on Kirchstrasse. Michael's son Johann Georg (1642–1691) became the leading architect of the Einsiedeln monastery and created the plans for the Jesuit church in Solothurn and the Benedictine monastery church in Pfäfers . His son and grandson Michael Kuens Franz Anton Kuen (* August 7, 1679 in Bregenz; † August 17, 1742 in Weingarten) became the most important sculptor in Vorarlberg of the 18th century.

- From 1638 Capuchin monastery (including church) of St. Anthony of Padua in Bregenz, together with his brothers Jakob and Kaspar.
- 1662 Old Town Hall of Bregenz; Free-standing half-timbered building with a high pointed gable.
- 1662 to 1676 Maria Bildstein pilgrimage church in Bildstein near Bregenz; early baroque pilgrimage church "To Our Lady, Visitation of Our Lady". In 1692, the now famous Auer Zunft built the only baroque double tower facade for Vorarlberg on the west side . The church is considered to be the most important baroque building in Vorarlberg.
- From 1667 Old Castle in Tettnang , built as the residence of the Counts of Montfort and now used as the town hall.
- 1672/1673 Tower closure of the parish church St. Gallus in Bregenz, according to the plan by architect Sebastian Greuter
- 1674–1677 Conversion and new construction of the Franciscan convent Thalbach in Bregenz, together with master builder Michael Thumb from Bezau.
