Michael Kurland

Michael Joseph Kurland (* 1938 in New York ) is an American author, best known for his science fiction and crime novels .

Life

Michael Kurland began his career as a science fiction novelist. His first release in the US in 1964 was Ten Years to Doomsday (with Chester Anderson ). Other well-known works are Tomorrow Knight , Pluribus , Perchance , and The Unicorn Girl . The Unicorn Girl was the middle volume in the Greenwich Village Trilogy, written by three different authors. The other two authors are Chester Anderson and TA Waters. For the first part, Butterfly Child , Chester Anderson was nominated for the Hugo Award in 1968 .

Because of the success of his crime stories in The Infernal Device (nominated for the Edgar Award in 1980), Michael Kurland turned his attention to writing detective stories. Several of his subsequent stories were sequels to The Infernal Device and use Sherlock Holmes ' opponent Professor Moriarty as the main character.

He also has two anthologies with Sherlock Holmes published short stories. My Sherlock Holmes tells stories from the perspective of characters other than Watson and Holmes, while the stories in Sherlock Holmes: The Hidden Years take place during the time when Holmes was believed to be dead.

As a preparation for his later success as a fantasy writer, Kurland wrote the two novels Ten Little Wizards and A Study in Magic . You play in Randall Garrett's fantastic world of Lord Darcy.

He is also the author of several guide and reference books such as How to Solve a Murder: the Forensic Handbook (How to solve a murder case: The forensic Manual) How to Try a Murder: the Handbook for Armchair Lawyers (How to murder negotiated: the Handbook for Armchair Lawyers) and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Improving Your Memory .

Michael Kurland lives in Petaluma , California.
