Michael Lingner

Michael Lingner (born January 12, 1950 in Dessau ; † February 26, 2020 in Hamburg ) was a German artist, art and media theorist , university lecturer and publicist.

Lingner studied art, philosophy, sociology and art history. From 1986 he had a teaching position for art and design history in the design department at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences . From 1987 to 1993 he took on a teaching position for theory and practice of artistic design at the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Hamburg . From 1990 to 1993 he was a board member of the Hamburg Art Association . From 1991 to 1996 he was editor of the Kunst Aktuell series in the journal Kunst und Studium . From 1993 to 1998 he was a project tutor at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. From 1994 to 2000 he took over a professorship at the DFG Graduate School Aesthetic Education at the University of Hamburg. From 1993 to 2015 he held a professorship for art theories / scientific foundations of artistic practices at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts . As part of his teaching at the interface between art and theory, he set up the archive and publication platform ArchivSystemKunst (ask23!) And the laboratory: Art & Science. The focus of his work was interdisciplinarity and communication.

He wrote art-theoretical publications on Siah Armajani , Jean Dubuffet , Adolf Hölzel , On Kawara , Joseph Kosuth , Kai Sudeck , Richard Wagner , Franz Erhard Walther and other artists. Since 1984 he has been working on the publication of the theoretical papers of Adolf Hölzel.

Michael Lingner was the son of the graphic artist and painter Karl-Heinz Lingner (1925–1998), a German representative of Informel .
