Michael Merz (computer scientist)

Michael Merz (born March 18, 1964 in Hamburg ) is a German computer scientist , entrepreneur and non-fiction author . His works have been used as standard literature in e-business seminars at several universities .

Life

Michael Merz grew up in Hamburg. After graduating from high school in Hummelsbüttel , he studied computer science and business administration at the University of Hamburg at the same time , and graduated in both subjects. He received his doctorate in 1996 at the chair of Winfried Lamersdorf (Distributed Systems, Department of Computer Science at the University of Hamburg) .

He has been dealing with the subject of e-business since 1993, and has published numerous articles in specialist journals, organized conferences and given scientific lectures. He is particularly interested in the topic of B2B integration , in particular the supply chain applications of XML , the protocol stack ebXML  , and electronic signing . In 1998 he was chair and organizer of the first scientific conference on e-commerce in Europe, the TrEC'98 in Hamburg. Since 1999 he has worked as managing director of the e-business consulting firm Ponton Consulting , whose B2B division he separated in 2001 with Tilo Zimmermann by means of a management buy-out , and has been together since then. The Ponton Consulting GmbH was part of the C1 Group from 2002 to 2012 and has been a member of Cora Management GmbH since the resale of parts of the C1 Group to Cognizant . On December 1st, 2013 the company changed its name to PONTON GmbH . Michael Merz lives and works in Hamburg.
