Michael Radloff (born August 12, 1944 in Trautenau , † 2007 in Berlin ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

After graduating from high school, Michael Radloff began to study materials handling technology at the Technical University of Dresden (1964). Working as a library assistant, assistant waiter and passenger, he studied evening painting from 1966 to 1972 at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art , before he was able to complete a regular course there from 1972 to 1977. From 1980 to 1993 he was head of a remedial class at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art and as a teacher in other circles. Last lived in Wünsdorf near Zossen , Radloff died in Berlin in 2007.

Determining for Radloff's work, which stands in the tradition of the New Objectivity , are his still lifes , "preferably static compositions" made of everyday objects such as apples, bottles, hats, vessels, flashlights and cigarette boxes, in which "everything is immovable and as if nailed in place" appears and "the absence of man is clearly noticeable". Consistent adherence to the representational is also shown by the graphic works, linocuts and woodcuts that were created in the process, which use simple lines to determine the forms of the figurative representations and portraits.
