Bernd Heimberger (born April 29, 1942 in Wernigerode ; † January 11, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German writer , literary critic , essayist , local researcher and local politician .

Life

After graduating from high school, Heimberger worked as an assistant in the German State Library in Berlin, later he was recognized as a librarian . From 1962 to 1969 he studied German , cybernetics and psychology at the Humboldt University in Berlin . As a so-called "people's correspondent " he published articles in various regional newspapers from the late 1950s. From the first half of the 1960s he worked as a freelancer for the Potsdam daily Märkische Volksstimme . From 1967 to 1975 he was promoted as a “young author” by the Aufbau Verlag and the Mitteldeutscher Verlag , whereupon he established himself as a freelance journalist and author. His novel Die Zensur , written between 1968 and 1970, was not published in the GDR . The same was true for the prose text Sterbestunden from 1983, which was still printed in 1992 under the new political circumstances and was given appreciative words by Christa Wolf . Heimberger wrote mainly literary and art reviews for numerous East and West German newspapers, magazines and radio stations such as Die Weltbühne , New German Literature , Litfass , die Horen , Die Zeit , Süddeutsche Zeitung . Around 6,000 contributions came together over the years, around 10 percent of them for broadcasters , including 200 for West German broadcasting alone .

From January 1944 on Heimberger lived in Blankenfelde-Mahlow , where he became increasingly involved in local politics in the last two decades of his life. In 1991 he was one of the founders of the Blankenfelder Kulturverein, of which he was chairman from 2002. He organized concerts, readings and exhibitions and was the editor and main author of the Blankenfelder Blätter für Heimatgeschichte, which was started in 2000 . In addition, he offered local tours. He founded a citizens' initiative , which in 1998 became part of the “BürgerBündnisBlankenfelde” community of voters . As an elected representative of the people, he sat in the municipal council of Blankenfelde-Mahlow (where he was chairman of the youth and culture committee) and belonged to the district council of the Teltow-Fläming district . For two years he held the office of mayor of Blankenfelde.
