Life

Sazarin was born in Gdansk in 1943 as the son of the Russian dancer and actress Maria Sazarina . From 1943 to 1945 he lived with his mother on the estate of his godfather Max Schmeling in East Prussia. In 1945 his parents fled to Hamburg with the child. At the age of 16 he learned to be a carpenter at Blohm & Voss . In 1962 Sazarin emigrated to the United States. He worked in various professions and was in the US Army. In 1969 he returned to Germany to study literature and art history on an autodidactic basis . In 1971 Sazarin began with his first drawings. In 1981 Sazarin moved into the House of Arts & Crafts and has lived as a freelance artist ever since.

In addition to painting, Sazarin's work also includes drawings, etchings, rust and material works. Coming from figurative drawing, his works became increasingly abstract over time. He often only hints at bodies and portraits. During the painting process and from the pouring of paint , random structures emerge with which the artist then continues to work. Sazarin was influenced, among other things, by the Japanese Zen philosophy and Lao-Tses Taoism .

Another characteristic of his works is a multilayered structure. He achieves this through the use of earth, sand, cement and reflective glazes. The colors black, white and red dominate. In an interview with the author Peter Schütt, Sazarin expresses himself as follows: “The picture paints itself. It comes down to me, it flows through me, it appears to my inner eye and jumps off there directly on the screen. "

Sazarin's complete oeuvre comprises around 500 large-format paintings and around 1,000 drawings.
