Michael Schlothauer
Michael Schlothauer (born June 21, 1943 in Großschirma ) is a former German officer . He was major general of the National People's Army and the last chief of the NVA's main staff.
Life
The son of a veterinarian joined the armed forces after graduating from high school on September 3, 1962 . From 1962 to 1965 he completed his studies at the officers' college of the land forces "Ernst Thälmann" . During this time he became a member of the SED in 1964 . From 1965 to 1971 he was platoon leader, deputy chief of staff and chief of staff in a battalion in the 16th Motorized Rifle Regiment in Möckern . From 1971 to 1975 he was an officer auditor at the military academy "MW Frunze" in Moscow, graduating as a military scientist. He then returned to the Mot.-Schützenregiment 16 as deputy commanding officer for training and was deputy commander and chief of staff of this regiment from 1977 to 1978. Schlothauer rose to regiment commander in 1978 and was commander of the motorized rifle regiment 24 " John Schehr " in Erfurt until 1979 . From 1979 to 1980 he acted as deputy commander and chief of staff of the 4th Mot.-Rifle Division in Erfurt. From 1982 to 1984 he studied at the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR "KJ Voroshilov" and in March 1984 he was promoted to colonel . Schlothauer was then from 1984 to 1985 Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the 4th Mot. Rifle Division and from September 1985 to August 1987 Division Commander of the 4th Mot. Erfurt Rifle Division (successor to Werner Schulze ). In March 1987, he was appointed major general and appointed deputy chief of Military District III and chief of staff.
After the reunification in the GDR he was appointed chief of the NVA's main staff in the Ministry of Disarmament and Defense on September 15, 1990 (successor to Manfred Graetz ). His early retirement took place on September 30, 1990.
