Michael Schmetz

Michael Schmetz († January 2018 ) was a German film scholar , film producer and promoter . From 1996 to 2001 he was responsible for international co-productions, animation, distribution and sales promotion at Filmboard GmbH (today Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg ) and from June 20, 2015 to September 2016 he was full-time managing director of AG Verleih - Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Independent Filmverleiher e. V.

Career

Schmetz studied theater , film and television studies in Cologne . Among other things, on his initiative, the European cartoon movie financing market was created; in 1999 he launched the cartoon movie fair with the Filmboard Berlin-Brandenburg. In 2006 he founded the Association of German Animation Producers (VdAP) and in 2009 transferred it to the newly established animation section of the Alliance of German Producers - Film & Television , which he headed for several years.

He initiated the Animation Production Day (APD) as part of the International Animated Film Festival Stuttgart and the International Conference for Animation, Effects, Games and Digital Media (FMX) in Stuttgart , organized it for six years and made it internationally relevant.

Schmetz also worked as a freelance consultant and producer, for example as an executive producer of the stop-motion animation film The Sandman - Adventure in Dreamland (2010) and at times also in the film industry fields at the Filmförderungsanstalt and AG Verleih.

Michael Schmetz died in early 2018. The funeral service took place on January 29, 2018 in Berlin.
