Michael Siebenbrodt

Michael Siebenbrodt (born 1951 in Greifswald ) is a German architect , architectural historian and museum director who is particularly concerned with the history and the environment of the Bauhaus .

Life

Siebenbrodt is the son of Magdalene Siebenbrodt and her husband Joachim Siebenbrodt. He grew up in the German Democratic Republic and initially learned the mason trade . From 1972 to 1976 he studied architecture at the Weimar University of Architecture and Construction . Here he acquired the academic degree of graduate engineer with a thesis on the design of a university for industrial design in Dessau using the Bauhaus building . In 1985 he worked as a research assistant at the university for the subjects of architectural theory, architectural history, monument preservation and freehand drawing. He has been involved in Bauhaus research since 1974 and is co-founder of the International Bauhaus Colloquia that have been taking place in Weimar since 1976. From 1985 to 1988 he was director of the scientific and cultural center (Bauhaus Museum and Bauhaus stage ) at the Bauhaus Dessau . Among other things, he was involved as a manager in the cultural office of the city of Weimar . As head of the cultural department of the city of Weimar, he was involved in the preparation of documenta X and in Weimar's application as European Capital of Culture in 1999. From 1992 he was acting director of the art collections in Weimar and until 2017 head of the Bauhaus Museum in Weimar. From 2001 to 2017 he was chairman of the Friends of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar e. V. and managed the model house Am Horn , which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996 . Since 2017 he has been working as a freelance building historian with a focus on the Bauhaus and is considered an expert in this field. He has initiated numerous international exhibitions, published writings and gives lectures at home and abroad.
