Michael Spivakovsky , Russian Майкл Спиваковский (* 1919 ; † 1983 ) was a British violinist , conductor and composer .

Life

Michael Spivakovsky, son of a Russian cellist and an English mother, was a nephew of the Spiwakowski brothers , who were all musicians and teachers: Adolf (1891–1958), Jascha (1896–1970), Isaak (1902–1977) and Tossi ( 1906-1998).

Spivakovsky had specialized in light classical music and played the violin , and more rarely the viola , in various orchestras , including an orchestra put together by Frank Sinatra for an album recording. He also conducted his own Stradivari orchestra .

Spivakovsky composed various works, including the Tango of Violins in 1955 and the Valse Burlesque . His best-known work was his Concerto for Harmonica , the first major concert for (chromatic) harmonica and orchestra, which was premiered in 1951 by Tommy Reilly with the London Radio Concert Orchestra under the direction of Mark Lubbock as part of the Festival of Britain .
