Michael Stickel (born April 14, 1981 in Aalen ) is a former German soccer player . The defender played in his active career for VfR Aalen , Wuppertaler SV Borussia and SV Sandhausen in the 3rd division .

Career

Stickel began playing football at SV Waldhausen in 1986 . After he had been appointed to the selection of the Württemberg Football Association as a C-youth , VfB Stuttgart noticed him and brought him into their own youth. Until 1999 he was several times Württemberg champion with various youth teams of the club. In 1998 he moved into the final of the German B youth championship with the B youth team of VfB Stuttgart alongside players like Ioannis Amanatidis , Andreas Hinkel or Kevin Kurányi , but failed there because of the youth team of Borussia Dortmund .

After Stickel had graduated from high school, he left VfB Stuttgart in 2000 and switched to Sportfreunde Dorfmerkingen . In the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg he immediately established himself as a regular player and was voted Player of the Year by the club. In 2001 he won the regional cup with the U19 team of the Württemberg Football Association . He turned down an offer from VfB Stuttgart to return and play for the second team.

In August 2002 Stickel moved to the Regionalliga Süd for VfR Aalen. Here, too, he was able to fight for a regular place and played a large part of the games of the club from the Ostalbkreis in the following years . In 2008 the club qualified fourth in the regional league south for the newly created 3rd league, where it was able to crown its professional debut on the first day of the game in a 2-1 away win against SV Sandhausen with a goal. This was followed by a total of 17 missions in the current season, until he had to end the season in March 2009 due to a serious back injury.

With the descent of VfR to the fourth-class Regionalliga Süd, Stickel's contract was no longer valid. Due to his one year injury break, he denied the preparation for the second half of the 2009/10 season at the regional league team SG Sonnenhof Großaspach , the club of his advisor Uli Ferber. In February 2010 the defender without a contract moved to Wuppertaler SV Borussia in the 3rd division, where he signed a contract that was valid until the end of the season. After the relegation of Wuppertal from the 3rd division Stickel moved to the third division club SV Sandhausen for the 2009/10 season . In the 1-1 draw against SpVgg Unterhaching on matchday 18, he was injured and was then out until the winter break. After successful rehab, he returned to team training at the end of the preparation for the second half of the season, but immediately tore an anterior ligament . After a comeback in the club's second team, he was not free of pain and had to undergo another operation. Ultimately, the club decided not to extend the contract, which was running out at the end of the season.

Stickel then moved to the upper division FCA Walldorf in the summer of 2011 , where he had to end his career in the spring of 2013 after several knee operations. He then moved to the club in the coaching staff of the club's U-23 team, which has been playing in the fifth-class Oberliga Baden-Württemberg since the championship in the Baden Association League in summer 2016. His main job is as a teacher.
